Joe Pesci says he got "serious burns" to his head in iconic "Home Alone" scene

I mean, if I saw a spider of that size, I’d probably want to kill it too, but with how hard Marv hits Harry, there are surely going to be some broken ribs. And honestly, if the hit was hard enough, Marv could have easily punctured a lung as well if the rib breaks into it. Pesci toldPeoplehe did have stuntpeople for "the real heavy stunts," but still dealt with "bumps, bruises, and general pains." This is the first time Pesci has publicly spoken of being burned by the flaming hat gag. In both films, McCallister unloads a world of pain on the criminals, Harry and Marv, the latter played by Daniel Stern. While stunt doubles were used for many scenes, Pesci said that some of the ones he did commit to were quite painful – namely, his head being set on fire. Although both bandits are dimwitted, Harry is often the brains of their team.

But I will say that if Harry were to actually have his hand burned at the temperature of this door, his skin would peel, bone would show – he’d probably need reconstructive surgery on his fingers, not just some scar from the ‘M’ on Kevin’s door. For context, I re-watched both Home Alone movies and rated each booby trap/injury on a scale of 1-5 , so you’re not going to see every single injury. But be prepared for a bloody doozy of a list, as these are the ones that ranked highest, from extremely damaging to likely fatal. Joe Pesci, who portrayed criminal Harry Lime in the first and second "Home Alone" films, opened up to People about his time working on set. The first of the films came out in 1990 while the second, which came out in 1992, turned 30 this year. The 79-year-old actor told the magazine in an email interview that both "Home Alone" movies were "a little demanding" as they were a "more physical type of comedy."

The two later observed Kevin walking out of his house to saw down a pine tree in the backyard for a Christmas tree, and realized the whole thing was a scam. Recognizing Kevin, he realized that he and Marv had been fooled the entire time. While it was a throwback to the blowtorch from the first movie , it’s what happened afterwards that really seals the deal.

They attempted to make their first move on breaking into the McCallister house, but Kevin, having been left behind, observed their shadows walking alongside the house from the inside, and turned on the lights. A confused Marv acknowledged that he thought Harry said the McCallisters had already left, to which Harry responded positively, saying that they were supposed to leave earlier that morning. Not wanting to take any chances, both burglars flee from the house. Let's talk about the searing hot doorknob, that's so hot, it brands the palm of Harry's hand. While I could go on to say how unrealistic this trap is in general, I won’t ruin the fun of it.

Harry spends the rest of the film with a half-burned hat and a very red, bald scalp. "I intentionally limited my interactions with to preserve the dynamic between his character, Kevin, and my character Harry," he told People, saying he didn't "want it to come across on the screen that we are in any way friendly." His name may be a reference to Orson Welles's con-man character from the radio show "The Adventures of Harry Lime", who also appears in the film The Third Man . After finding Marv, Harry drove his van to the McCallister home to attempt to break in again, but was deterred away when grown-up Kevin set up defenses using his Google Assistant. Marv decided to change their nickname to the "Sticky Bandits" after taping his hand to stick some change to his hand.

The rigging was pulled extra hard on purpose, after an exchange between the director and crew to "really give it to her." In the most memorable one of the film, a sequel to the 1990 blockbuster "Home Alone," Harry pulls a light switch only to trigger a booby trap which ignites his winter hat on fire. 's character of Kevin McCallister accidentally ends up on the wrong flight as his family goes on Christmas vacation. While his parents, siblings, uncles and cousins go to Florida, McCallister ends up in New York City. It starts off as a dream with a suite to himself at The Plaza, but the child quickly runs into the criminals that attempted to rob his home in the first film. The reason why he mutters is that Joe Pesci can't stop himself from swearing behind the scenes.

Just how dangerous was the "Home Alone 2" set? Maybe not as rough as "Kill Bill"

I know that many people will probably think this isn’t that bad of an injury, but hear me out. At that speed, that could actually cause serious ruptures to happen to the testicular area, and probably cause some issues for his little swimmers down there. He would need serious medical attention if he wanted to -- cough -- use them again at some point.

As they drove up past a church, Harry, assumed Kevin went in, but not wanting to go into the church himself, gave up the search. Kevin turned out to be hiding in a nativity scene as a hooded shepherd, and he returned home, afterward. Harry finally manages to get Peter McCallister's attention and informed him that the police were checking houses around the neighborhood to make sure that everyone was taking the proper precautions against burglaries. Peter told Harry that they had locks on their doors and automatic timers for their lights. Harry started to ask Peter when his family would be leaving, but before he could, Peter was pulled into the kitchen by his oldest son, Buzz, to eat pizza.

When he finally realizes, he turns the taps of a nearby sink only to find the water shut off. He sees a toilet bowl full of what appears to be water and does a handstand to dunk his burning head. Harry goes boom — but also, in the universe of the film, is somehow totally fine. Caused Marv and Harry to be punched by the same woman that Marv had previously been slapped for hitting on earlier and escaped in the back of a horse-drawn carriage. Harry was initially discomforted knowing that Kevin is around, but Marv eased his worries, as Kevin had no home to booby trap them with, and on top of that, was now alone in Central Park, where grown men were known to enter and not leave alive.

In the second, film he chases the young McCallister into an apartment and runs into another booby trap that lights his head on fire once again. Harry and Marv pursued Kevin to the roof of his uncle Rob McCallister's house as Harry attempted to trick Kevin into throwing down his camera by promising to leave Kevin alone if he agreed. Kevin did not go through and tricked him by throwing down bricks that missed Harry each time and hit Marv four times. Harry vengefully went around the back and warily glanced at an open window and a fire escape ladder, choosing to jump onto the ladder, thinking the window might be a trap. Harry then slipped and hurt his back due to the rungs of the ladder being soaked in green slime as he mumbled angrily. Kevin raises the stakes by adding a metal pipe to follow the paint cans in Home Alone 2.

Kevin slipped on an icy surface along the way and they caught him and took him to Central Park. Harry soon managed to get Kate McCallister's attention after she paid the pizza boy. At an ice rink, Harry called Marv forth and acknowledged to him that they had to change their game, as they were not getting anywhere with stealing goods, deciding to steal cash instead. Marv suggested robbing hotels, but Harry knew that tourists were not guaranteed to have much cash. Harry then suggested robbing a toy store, since they made the most money around Christmas time. Making it to Duncan's Toy Chest, they planned on staying there overnight, stealing the money, and then leaving the next morning.

Literally everything would be broken in their head with how heavy and how hard that pipe was. But the pièce de resistance is that they fall backwards into the basement – falling about fifteen feet – and then the pipe is sent falling back on top of them. If the fall wouldn’t kill them , that pipe landing onto their chests would most likely seriously injure their bodies. He has lost a tooth and used to wear a golden replacement until it was knocked out by one of Kevin's booby traps. Later that night, the burglars arrived as planned, but Kevin, knowing that they would return, animated and dressed up mannequins and played loud Christmas music to make it look as if the house was occupied.

Joe Pesci was burned on "Home Alone 2," adding to a history of injured actors toughing it out on set

If he somehow survived getting his head literally burned apart , he would never be the same. In the film, Pesci as Harry doesn't notice his burning head at first. He looks around, curious, exploring, as the flames shoot from the top of him like a human Roman candle.
